Urgent appeal: Without kids’ summer camp, parents face job loss

What’s the situation?

URRP is providing resources for 125 Ukrainian refugee children.

If these kids can’t go to summer camp, many parents (often single moms) will face the financially devastating consequences of unemployment.

We’re collaborating with the YMCA and other summer camps to accept kids ages 2 to 12.

Camps are giving deep discounts, but we need donations to close the gap.

For refugee families, summer camp is a crucial support system. Many parents work low-wage jobs with little scheduling flexibility. They depend on summer camps for reliable, affordable, safe childcare. Lack of summer childcare can be financially devastating.

Camp is an important source of stability and routine for refugee kids who’ve experienced major upheaval. It provides a sense of community, learning opportunities and summer fun!

MEET OUR KIDS:

Girl, 5 y.o.

Her young dad works day and night to support his family, plus repay friends family for funds to flee Ukraine. They are a family of five living in a tiny studio on one salary.

Boy, 5 y.o.

This guy came here with his single mom, who recently landed a job and can now rent an apartment of her own. Her continued employment is vital and she depends on summer camp to care for her son.

Girl, 6 y.o.

She lives with her 4-generation family of 7. Her young parents work multiple jobs to cover the kids’ needs, plus the elders’ medical expenses. Without subsidized summer childcare, their entire family will suffer.

Boy, 6 y.o.

To make ends meet, this boy's single mom works multiple jobs between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Without camp for the child her complicated work schedule and continued employment become impossible.

Girls, 9, 7, 2 y.o.
Boys, 10, 7 y.o.

These 6 cousins under 10 came with their two single moms, who both must work to support their families. They can’t afford camp for 6 kids and can’t afford time off work to stay home with the kids.

This girl comes from a family of five, living in cramped studio apartment.

Girls 3 and 5 y.o.

This family is homeless, trying desperately to settle into their new lives in the U.S. Without summer camp, parents won't be able to earn for living.

Boys 3 and 4 y.o.

Mom came along from Kyiv with two boys, their father instantly joined military when the war started, their house in Kyiv was bombed, mom needs to send kids to camp to be able to work and pay rent

Girl 6 y.o.

Her mom worked tirelessly. Now in the U.S., mom needs our help so she can keep working to support older girl and her sibling.

The Ukrainian Refugee Resettlement Project (URRP) is a non-profit organization that helps refugees and immigrants from Ukraine who have resettled in Florida. Our mission is to provide support and services, including assistance with housing, employment, education, childcare and healthcare.
